They only made 3 season of the original series!
Well then you're all set. PS. Star Trek is for nerds. Everyone knows Star Wars is better.
Bigkilla: Wrong. Star Wars is for toy lovers and people who love merchandising tie ins. I prefer ideas and characters and cool technology and Star Trek (original and Next Gen) kicks the crap out of SW. Yes. I said it.
Although, I just did a post about Star Wars in the male DNA where I sort of compliment the first film over on CineRobot...just a coincidence.
First of all, that's extremely cynical to say that "Star Wars is for toy lovers and people who love merchandising tie ins"
All entertainment is about merchandising these days. Star Trek is heavily merchandised, also. Just ask my brother's old engineering costume from TNG or my set of blueprints of the Enterprise, or my VHS boxed set of the first six movies. OR the framed print signed by the entire casts of both series that Analog Medium owns. (Don't ask how much it cost)
And second. I agree that Star Trek was more concept-oriented (TNG more so than Classic), but to say that the tech on Star Trek is cool is kinda silly. I mean, both Star Wars and Star Trek had cool technology, while both being extremely cheesy. Transporters? Lightsabers? Yeah right, both seem like fevered dreams of madmen. The advantage I see Star Wars having in the tech sector is that the story takes place Long Ago in a Galaxy Far Away. So it doesn't have to be realistic. Star Trek operates in the future on our standard timeline. And while I'd love to believe that we'll have holodecks in the distant future, I wouldn't count on holographic versions of Dr. Moriarty coming to life and running amok any time soon.
My reference to Star Wars being better than Star Trek was sort of a pop-culture joke. This conflict being one that will never be resolved in any of our lifetimes. But if you really want to go at it, I'll make a list of three cool things about Star Wars and three lame things about Star Trek and invite anyone to refute my list in similar fashion.
Cool things about Star Wars:
1. Bounty Hunters
2. Cybernetics
3. Non-anthropomorphic aliens
Lame things about Star Trek:
1. Shatner's acting
2. Star Trek V
3. The Borg
And for the record, I could really argue either side of this debate. I just came down on Star Wars' side this round.
I was mostly just jesting you...although I'm not a big STAR WARS fan, that is true.
Plus, the Borg--lame?
The Borg is a cool idea. The whole networked hive mind thing. But in execution it was pretty lame. I do like their adaptive modulating shield things.
Star Wars vs. Star Trek is like Coke vs. Pepsi. It's all just good sci-fi though.
Just for the record, I whole heartedly endorse both franchises... saw Shatner speak at a convention when I was 10! Ha!
